Before being admitted to full membership in 1969, women were banned from wearing the official jacket for any reason. However, FFA sold alternative jackets for Queens and Sweethearts. The sweetheart jacket originally came in a blue or white satin rayon fabric, with name on the front, and no emblem on the back.

Later the Sweetheart jacket was introduced in white or sky blue corduroy, the sky blue was soon dropped to only offer white. After women were allowed full national membership, the white Sweetheart jacket would still be sold alongside the official dark blue women’s jacket, it was last sold in 1992.

One of the five FFA jackets held in the collections of the Smithsonian is the Sweetheart jacket of Mary Louise Reynnells.
