Title
100.IG Terme Boxer (OBJECT)
Description
This is “The Terme Boxer,” attributed to Apollonius, and one of the few surviving bronze statues from the classical era. This muscular man is seated on a stone structure, wearing only boxing attire such as wraps for his hands and penis. The Terme Boxer represents a change in depicting heroic figures, from beautiful unburdened youth to a man beaten down by life yet still looking upwards, signaling changing virtues in the Mediterranean from purity to hardiness.
